Press releaseConsistent with the mandate of the Sanya Declaration of the BRICS Leaders Meeting (14 April 2011), the Ministers of Health of the five BRICS’ countries met on the sidelines of the 64thWorld Health Assembly, on 17 May 2011, to discuss issues of common interest as well as prepare the BRICS Health Ministerial Meeting to be held in Beijing, China, on 11 July 2011. Representatives of WHO and UNAIDS also attended the meeting.
South Africa's opening statement to WIPO SCCR 20

June 2010 - 20:30On 21 June, 2010, South Africa made the following general statement to the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) which covered the protection of broadcasting organizations, a treaty for audiovisual performances and on limitations on exceptions. South Africa underscored that the SCCR's work on limitations and exceptions be prioritized and welcomed the ongoing work of WIPO in 'regard to the matter of access for the visually impaired'. The following text was submitted by the Like-Minded Group (India, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Egypt) on Friday, 8 May 2009, for consideration by the PCT Working Group. It is a best endeavor to consolidate the four proposals made yesterday by the African Group, Group B, GRULAC and the aforementioned like-minded Group.

May 2009 - 9:51India, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Egypt have just provided inputs for the Chair’s (Canada, Alan Troicuk, Senior Counsel, Canadian Intellectual Property Office), Summary of the Working Group of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The Philippines made the intervention on behalf of the group of like minded countries.
