The 130th session of the WHO Executive Board will examine inter alia, the following technical items:

Prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (scheduled for discussion on Thursday, 19 January 2012)

  • Outcomes of the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases and the First Global Ministerial Conference on Healthy Lifestyles and Noncommunicable Disease Control
  • Implementation of the global strategy for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the action plan
  • Implementation of the action plan for the prevention of avoidable blindness and visual impairment

Monitoring of the achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals (slated for discussion on Tuesday, 17 January 2012)

  • Progress in the achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals
  • Global health goals after 2015

Social determinants of health: outcome of the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, October 2011) (slated for discussion on Tuesday, 17 January 2012)

Pandemic influenza preparedness: sharing of influenza viruses and access to vaccines and other benefits: report on the work of the Advisory Group (slated for discussion on Thursday, 19 January 2012)

Substandard/spurious/falsely-labelled/ falsified/counterfeit medical products: report of the Working Group of Member States (scheduled for discussion on Friday, 20 January 2012)

Consultative expert working group on research and development: financing and coordination (scheduled for discussion on Friday, 20 January 2012)

The cross-cutting work on WHO reform will be considered by the EB on Wednesday, 18 January 2012 while the formalities involved in nominating Dr. Margaret Chan for a second terms as Director-General of the WHO is scheduled to occupy the morning deliberations of Tuesday’s (17 January 2012) and Wednesday’s (18 January 2012) session.
