The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a proposed trade agreement involving 16 countries in the Asia/Pacific region, that have a combined population of 3.5 billion persons, and about 30 percent of world GDP. They include the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), and six additional countries: Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand. This negotiation has taken on even greater significance after the United States pulled out of the TransPacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
Attached are below are three documents that KEI has obtained from the RCEP negotiation, and which have not been published before.
The first is the section on “Temporary Safeguard Measures” from the Investment chapter, that was prepared for the discussions in Tangerang, Indonesia in December 2016.
The second is the consolidated text on competition.
The third is the a document with Article 19 and 20 from the Services chapter.
