2008 – Kazakhstan Timeline

May 25, 2008. The UK Sunday Times reports Prince Andrew sold a home to a Kazakh tycoon for 15 million British pounds. The home was Sunninghill Park, in Berkshire, England, which was the official residence of the Duke of York from 1990 until 2004. The Buyer was Kenes Rakiskev, a 29 year old head of an energy company. Also a partner in the purchase was his father in law, Imangali Tasmagambetov, a former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, according to the Times. The Daily Mail had a follow up account on May 26, 2008. On July 27, 2008, the Times provided a more detailed account of the transaction, which seems shrouded with more mystery regarding the actual purchaser of the property. Despite the high price for the home, it was not occupied as apparently neglected after the purchase.
