Andrew S. Goldman is Counsel for Policy and Legal Affairs at KEI. He is an attorney licensed in Maryland and New York, and is admitted before the United States Supreme Court, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
At KEI, Andrew provides integral legal analysis to support KEI’s advocacy work. Recently, he has conducted legal research and analysis and advocated that the U.S. Government allow for affordable generic versions of an expensive prostate cancer medicine under the Bayh Dole Act; highlighted and redressed numerous important intellectual property provisions of various international trade agreements such as the TPP, TTIP, and RCEP; filed and provided technical support for compulsory licensing requests on multiple continents involving expensive medicines for hepatitis C virus, HER2+ breast cancer, and leukemia; and conducted U.S. legislative and regulatory analysis on issues pertaining to patents and drug pricing. He frequently represents KEI at various meetings and fora related to intellectual property and public health.
Prior to joining KEI, Andrew was an associate for an intellectual property firm in Baltimore, where he primarily practiced copyright and trademark, both in litigation and transactional work. Andrew is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, with a certificate in Environmental Law after completing independent work analyzing and writing on Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the lack of fairness and transparency in British Petroleum’s settlement claims process. He received his M.A. from Columbia University in American Studies in 2006, where he wrote his Masters Thesis on Ralph Ellison and jazz, and he graduated with a B.A. in Politics from Princeton University in 2000, where he received a certificate in Political Theory.
In the past, Andrew was the inaugural Speiser Fellow at the Center for Study of Responsive Law, and before law school Andrew researched, wrote, and organized campaigns on policy issues for many nonprofit groups, including the Center for Digital Democracy, the Center for Justice & Democracy, Essential Information, and others.
Andrew is also a critically acclaimed songwriter and producer who from time to time records under the name Fulton Lights. He lives with his wife, Nicole, and their dog, Leonard, in Baltimore.
