Applauding WIPO Webcast and Video-on-Demand

Clearly WIPO could teach a few things to many agencies –other UN bodies but also for example the office of the US Trade Representatives– regarding transparency and accessibility for all stakeholders.

In May 2012, WIPO announced its broadcast via internet (webcasting) of the principle committees and bodies of WIPO. In addition to the live webcast in English and in the original language of the speaker (the “floor” language), WIPO is providing Video on Demand (VoD) on the WIPO website to allow playback of sessions that have already taken place this year.

Webcast of meetings in session and Video-on-Demand of 2012 sessions, may be found on the WIPO website at:
http://www.wipo.int/webcasting/en/index.jsp

Now WIPO provides coverage for 18 events per year. You will find the various Standing Committees (from February to December 2012), the AV Diplomatic Conference (in process now), an Advisory Commitee on Enforcement meeting etc…

The introduction of webcasting has been undertaken pursuant to a recommendation adopted at the 49th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies and in an effort to make WIPO meetings more accessible to all stakeholders (See draft general report a/49/18 prov. WEBCASTING AT WIPO.)
