KEI Comment on the Reduction of Number of Days the Public Can Comment on a Prospective NIH Exclusive Patent License

The National Institute of Health (NIH) recently held an all-day workshop titled, “Transforming Discoveries Into Products: Maximizing NIH’s Levers to Catalyze Technology Transfer.” KEI Director James Love participated in the July 31st workshop, speaking on the panel on “How NIH Negotiates License Terms”. The NIH web page for the event, which includes a webcast of the event, is available here.

In conjunction with this workshop, the NIH is accepting comments from the public on its licensing practices, through August 18, 2023 via SciencePolicy@od.nih.gov.

KEI will be providing comments on different topics. Today KEI filed a comment on changes in the number of days the NIH provides the public to comment on its exclusive license. One figure from that comment is shown below. The full comment, which also discusses why the comment period is important, is available here: https://www.keionline.org/bn-2023-1
