The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 Innovation Inducement Prizes

On December 19, 2007, the The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 was enacted as Public Law 110-140. The Act created two new innovation inducement prizes to stimulate innovation in the field of energy:

  • The H-Prize, which is designed to advance the research, development, demonstration, and commercial application of hydrogen energy technologies.
  • The Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prizes, which deal with energy efficient solid state lighting.

Blogging the Washington DC HIF presentation

Yesterday December 1 2008, professors Aidan Hollis and Thomas Pogge presented their Health Impact Fund (HIF) proposal at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

The meeting convened and moderated by the President of Georgetown University, Jack deGioia, was attended by 50/60 people and was structured with two presentations by the co-authors and a panel discussion by :

H-Prize passes U.S. House, 408-8

According to this GQ story, the H-Prize (HR 632, 110th Congress) passed the House today by a vote of 408 to 8.

Every two years, H-Prizes worth $1 million would be given in four categories: production, storage, distribution and utilization. One $4 million prize would be awarded for hydrogen vehicles. At the end of 10 years, a $10 million grand prize would be given for a “transformational advance in hydrogen energy technology.”
